Homework Center Day 2
Today was day two of my service learning. We arrived at Madison View Apartments at six o' clock again. We were down one tutor today, and had even more kids show up. I thought that the rain would deter some of the kids from coming, but I was wrong. I helped a boy named Carlos with his spelling homework, and I played games like hangman and Dr. Suess. One of my fellow tutors made the children some paper hats, airplanes, and even paper ninja stars. The ninja stars were a big hit. But, mostly the younger kids didn't have much if any homework to do so we just played games with them. I had fun interacting with the little kids, although one in particular was a handful. But, all in all I really enjoy helping kids out with their homework and just playing around with them.

Homework Center
Today was the first day of my service learning. We arived at the apartment complex where we help kids with their homework at 6:00. Some of the kids were playing outside; jumping rope and riding their bikes, but they were excited to see our tutoring crew of seven. To our suprise, most of the kids didn't have a lot of homework, so we helped the ones that did and let the others keep playing. I helped a young man with his math and spelling homework. I was amazed at how advanced their curiculum was compared to when I was in school. It had been a while for me since I did graphing and functions. After they finished their homework, we all played games. Some of the kids drew pictures for us, and I played memory with two little ones. All in all, I thought it was a great experience. It turned out better than I thought it would. We went back to school at 8:00.

I changed my mind about volunteering at St. Michael's Hospital. Instead I will be volunteering at the homework center in Stevens Point with a couple of elementary education majors. I will be working with children from ages seven to fourteen. I will be helping them with their science homework and playing games with them. I hope to help the kids that are struggling with their studies and hopefully give them a better grasp on the subject matter.

Hospital project
I am working with Brynna on a volunteer project at one of the area hospitals. We intend on either working with childrenor adults; helping out wherever we can. I hope to gain some valuble volunteer experience from this project. I am a health promotions major and would love to take patients for walks or talk about nutrition with them. I strongly believe in the benefits of wellness and hope to teach other people about it. Brynna and I are in the process of contacting hospitals right now, and hope to hear back from them soon. We plan on volunteering once a week if possible; either going together or alone. We haven't worked out all of the details yet, but hope to get started after break.
